April 11

More stats!  The random pageviews keep rolling in.  Disclaimer: This is for class.  Feel free to read it, but it's likely disjointed and a little bit jumpy.  However, posts will occur with complete regularity, so if you're into reading something random and poorly written and completely meaningless every day, maybe this works for you.  Also, as I just noticed for the millionth time, I ramble.  Anyhow.  What shall we make today's post about?

(20 minutes later)

I still have no idea what I'm going to write about.  Maybe this will end up like last time, and I'll be struck by inspiration midway through a sentence, somewhere around this point.  This point.  This point. No? Guess not.  Okay, back to the internet!

Still nope.  I think I'll just go to bed.  This is what happens when I write two posts in a day, then none.  I think that might've been part of the problem before; I would write 5 or 6 at once, and then none for a week or two.  So I'll keep forcing myself to post here, and hopefully it'll end up becoming enough of a habit to write.  Or maybe I just can't think because I am operating on 6 hours of sleep, got home for the first time in 24 hours today at 6:45, and am just generally wrecked.  goodnight.

April 10

Disclaimer:  This is not me posting.
Well, it is.  But through the magic of technology, I think I have set this up so that some time on Wednesday afternoon, this post will appear to the public.  The twist being that it's 9:00 on Tuesday, and I am working ahead.  Imagine that!

Unfortunately, this is not entirely out of initiative. Although writing these blog posts is certainly proving to be a convenient way to procrastinate more real work.  Especially when I can write about Kim Jong Un on 4chan. But I digress.  I am not writing this at posting time because I will not be here.  I will, at the time of this post, be driving in to Winnipeg, to see a Billy Bragg concert with  my grandparents.  There's a lot of elements of this that don't necessarily need explaining, but I need content, so I'll explain anyway.

First of all, why am I going to a concert with my grandparents?  It's a reasonable question to ask a teenager. The story goes back several years.  I think it started somewhere around my 10th birthday, I'm not really sure.  But I know for sure that by my 10th birthday, I had never been on a plane.  I had scarcely even been to an airport.  My idea of a big city was Winnipeg, and a long trip was a weekend out to Kenora or something like.  My grandparents got this great idea that since I was so determined to change this, they could start giving "experiences" as gifts, rather than physical objects or toys.  They didn't want to make trash, or relics.  They wanted to make memories.  So for my 10th birthday, I was awarded a trip with them to Toronto! By plane!   I was quite excited.  This was the coolest thing I'd ever received.

Ever since then, 2 traditions have taken hold on the Barnett side of the family:  Each grandchild gets a trip to Toronto on their 10th birthday, and birthday and christmas presents are given in the form of experiences.  Recently, for me, this has taken the form of concerts.  I have been, in the interceding 7 years to: tapings of The Vinyl Cafe, tapings of The Debaters, and a few other concerts.  One year we made chinese food for dinner.  Another year, we went out for fondue.  The experiences and memories are still there, unlike any toy or game would be.  So this years gift/experience is again a concert.

Why Billy Bragg?  Another good question for someone in my demographic.  He's been out there writing folk music for at least 3 decades, probably more.  In the musical world, he's a relic.  But that's part of the appeal.  For one, this legendary man seems unstoppable, but at the same time one begins to wonder if he'll tour through Canada again.  I've seen him at least 3 times that I remember, probably more.  4 if you count as an unborn child,  but that's a story for another post.  But those times, it never ceases to amaze me the musicality, the skill, and the political perception this man has.  He speaks more intelligently about Canadian politics than most Canadians, and he barely spends a fraction of his time traveling through the nation.  So I want to see him again.

This has been the longest explaination ever, and I think it will do.  After all, I'm writing my second one for today!  But through dark, mysterious magic, you'd never know...

April 9th

First thing I noticed when I logged on to make todays post was that there were 12 pageviews.  I can only account for 4 of those, and the other 8 must be due to the ability to randomly flip through blogs.  If you were or are one of those people, I am sorry.  This must be rather dull.  But it still works for me in its purpose of completing an assignment.  But I can't go on for 2 whole days meta-writing about this site.  I must find some actual content.  So I'm going to talk about something.  And I don't yet know what.

Politics?  Not really much happening.  Oh wait.  North Korea is happening.  I recently came across a post online that was really interesting.   It's obviously not true.  And it's likely just trying to waste your time.  But I found it interestingly plausible. I mean, what's to say this isn't the back story? It really makes far too much sense.  I applaud the person who thought of that, let alone translated it into the noble form of >greentext.

An aside about greentext:  This is a tradition and cultural part of the legendary website 4chan.  Have you ever heard of the hacktivist group Anonymous? They were founded in this website, and are still closely linked with it.  Heard of the idea/phenomenon of memes?  They also originated here, and have since pervaded the rest of the web.  Most of the original content on the web has or still does originate here.  It's a very impressive feat, for a site run by one man on a shoestring budget.

On the flip side, 4chan is also one of the most disgusting, harsh, and cruel places on the internet. I won't go into details, but I will say that I don't recommend going there.  But this has been quite a long aside.  Back on topic, it's quite a compelling story.  I mean, you could write a book about this!  Maybe I will.

To be continued?

April 8.

New blog!  This format is the one I decided will be best for me to complete the assigned journaling, which I have had a great challenge with recently.  I find that I can type faster, you can read it much easier I'm sure, and the stream of consciousness writing that I tend to do well in, prospers here in the blog.  So this is the way it will be.  Unfortunately, I don't have a word counter or length guide, so I'll just be writing as much as seems appropriate.  Perhaps a page-like amount.

A few things frustrate me about this system, however.  First, I am have no access to indentation.  The paragraphs start at the left margin, unless I painstakingly space them in.  So I guess we'll have to deal.  The other difference that I've noticed, is that I seem to have a peculiar habit of double-spacing after every period.  This didn't seem odd to me until it was pointed out by someone while I was writing the Travels blog, and I've been irked by it ever since. So that's the cons.  The pros:  It's so easy!  I just open another tab and start typing.  How lovely.  I can rack up a whole bunch of neatly written words with minimal effort, and improve my typing speed as I go.  I can also link websites and pictures directly to this blog, instead of mentioning that I have to show you in class.  This blog makes my life much easier.  Except that I have to actually write the journals.  Which I didn't do much of in the past week.  And I can't just fudge the dates and crank them out either, with post times.  It would appear that I can work ahead if I want to, however.  I can time my posts for release at certain times.  This is again to my advantage, because on a day like this Wednesday, when I will be away from home all evening, I can still crank out a post, by simply typing it tomorrow.  If I were really on a roll, I could do a whole week at once.  But let's not get ahead of ourselves.  So far we're back 6 posts on the blog, and this is 1 of about 100 remaining.  And so on that sobering note, goodnight!
(but not actually; further procrastination means that I'll be doing the questions presently.)
